I guess you want to learn a little bit more about the writer of this blog, huh?
Personal: In astrology, I am a Leo (west), Rabbit (east). Although close to my Christian roots, my main faith and philosophy is Chan Buddhism (more commonly known as Zen).
Location: Living in London, UK since 1998. I am Bulgarian, raised in Bulgaria prior to my move in the UK. Born in ’87, I am happily enjoying my early twenties, learning from life’s lessons as quickly as possible.
Academic: Currently I study BA Hons Applied Social Science, Community Development and Youth Work at Goldsmiths University, London. I am studying Mandarin Chinese at University once a week.
Employment: Currently working as a Project Co-Ordinator for UK Artist Development. Also currently organising a separate placement here in youth work and community development to commence in March ’11.
Volunteering: Proof reading for Ren Ai Charity and Longquan Temple, Beijing.
Short term ambitions: Hoping to pass those never-ending essays with flying colours and generally do well on my degree! I have had a drastic life style change over the past two years. I wish to continue with my new healthier lifestyle, with a focus on family, home life and blossoming as a woman.:)
In regards to China, I am a desperately interested to continue learning pu tong hua (spoken Mandarin) and hanzi (Chinese characters) so that eventually I am able to read my favourite Chinese poems the way they were intended to (Love Li Bai and Han Yu)! I strive to learn enough characters so that I can learn calligraphy one day. I really want to learn to master the art of tea ceremonies- to become natural and elegant at pouring tea would be really fulfilling!!!
Once I complete my degree, I will be itching to learn Shaolin Kung Fu and take up the relevant lifestyle as I was so incredibly happy and healthy during my first experience of training in July ’10. I hope to become a keen Dharma student to improve my knowledge and practice of Chan Buddhism and create a fitting environment around me. That includes finding new activities to do in London that do not involved drinking or clubbing, and exploring my interests and hobbies that may not necessarily be shared with my immediate friendship circles (such as cross-stitching, going to see ballet or opera…) I wish to gain the support of the Sangha (the Buddhist community) as currently I do not feel I have found my ‘crowd’ here in London to share my beliefs and spirituality with.
However, I understand that no matter what plans we have, life/ destiny/ fate has other things in store for us, so while I wait to find out what happens next, I just hope for more travel, love (in it’s all inclusive sense), excitement, life insight, personal development, adventure, fulfilment, and that is the direction I am aiming for!!
I hope you enjoy my blog.
Best wishes, love and light,
Vyara Gylsen aka Jin Feng.

Again good luck and double happiness to you.

I believe you will succeed!
Hi Jin Feng. I just came across your site by accident.
I’m from Australia, but have spent a bit of time in China, mainly to learn the language and culture. Since being here, I too have become very interested in Buddhism, particularly Zen. Also, training in Shaolin is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.
I thought it would be interesting to get in contact with you. So if you have some time, send me an email. Maybe I can help give you some tips for picking up Mandarin quicker than anyone else
